The best way to enjoy the Litchfield Green Area is to take a Walking tour of Historical Litchfield
. The town was founded in 1721 and many of the buildings seen today were originally built in the late 1700s. The central area of Litchfield was designated as a State Historic District in 1959. North & South Street was designated as a National Historical Landmark District in 1967. Most of the buildings on these streets are private homes, but they can be enjoyed by merely strolling the tree-lined street. Pick up map of at the Information Center on the Green.
